HISTORY
FACT ONE :: Suffice to say Vince's parents never got along. Throw Mom and Dad in a room, and they couldn't be affable for more than five minutes. Unfortunately, neither of them wanted to leave the marriage for fear of what The Government might do. So, while Vince should've been napping, he was instead listening to vociferous back-and-forth between the parental units.
FACT TWO :: At his annual aptitude tests, Vince showed an average (some might even say slightly above average) IQ and plenty of physical strength. Unfortunately, he lacked the drive to back either of these and make something of himself. When his mother would go over the basics everyone was required to know, Vince would give half-assed answers, or purposely say the wrong thing just to piss her off. Jane was a straight-edge goody-two-shoes, so whenever Vince acted out, she would hop on her soapbox and rant about how much The Government did for everyone, and how he should be thankful and prepare himself so he could give back one day. Of course, Vince tuned her out. In the end, she was the parent who survived.
FACT THREE :: Dario had a rather thankless job, so during his free time, he liked to drink as much as he could, and often came home from "the late shift" buzzed. This began long before Vince was born. Vince liked his dad when Dario was drunk, though. He wasn't a mean drunk. In fact, he was interesting. He would say things like, "You know, The Government isn't that great. They just kill anyone who doesn't claim they are." He also told stories of these people called "Reapers" -- the agents of [EVEN THOUGH IT SHOULD CHANGE SOON, THIS PASSWORD STILL SHOULD NOT BE VIEWED BY YOU UNLESS YOU READ IT IN THE RULES ] The Government who would kill anyone they were hired to. At that time, Jane would intervene, claiming that the alcohol was messing with Dario's brain, tell him not to say things like that, especially in the house, and walk him to bed.
FACT FOUR :: Vince was prone to wandering. Every day, once his studies had concluded, he'd head out the door and just walk. Sometimes, he'd make it around the block, get bored, and return home. Other times, he'd slip money out of people's pockets when they weren't looking and duck into the nearest shop. He acquired quite a few random items from the department and entertainment stores following this practice.
FACT FIVE :: One afternoon, on Dario's day off, he took Vince out around their apartment complex and showed him something that he'd inherited from his (late) father -- a Martin acoustic guitar. Dario warned Vince that The Government wasn't fond of this kind of thing (translation: people owning musical instruments), and that he was not to speak of it inside the house. Or on the street. Only in the back alley could he speak of it. And play it. Dario taught him.
FACT SIX :: When Vince turned nineteen, he went for his final aptitude test as a youth. The machine did its calculations, then told him that he would carry on his father's rapturous legacy as a custodian. Only, he'd be filling the position at the coffee shop. And so Vince was thrust into the working world. Having learned just how much it sucked, Vince picked up Dario's habit of drinking a little more than he should.
FACT SEVEN :: When Vince was 23 and all moved into his own apartment, he received some bad news. Apparently, Dario and Jane got into a fight about (you guessed it) The Government. Dario came home one night complaining that he hated how The Government thought it was their right to tell everyone what they were destined to do for the rest of their lives. Jane faithfully stood by The Government. After a few more arguments were made, Dario stormed out. He hadn't been seen since.
