HISTORY
FACT ONE :: Talia was an Imperfection from the moment she was born, but no one knew it, not even the mighty [WE NEED A NEW RULES PASSWORD LIKE WHOA] Government. How was that possible? For starters, the Federicks were an extremely well-connected family, even despite their status as Imperfections. When March tenth came around, Sarah and Lawrence were smuggled inside the wall long enough for Sarah to give birth in a safe place, and then they were smuggled right back out, even despite the fact that Sarah was exhausted. Being exhausted and outside the wall was safer than staying inside. Little Talia was left behind, and given to another couple who had lost their baby girl during childbirth within mere hours of Talia being born. She was a normal baby - she laughed when she was pleased, she cried when she was hungry, those sort of things. She even managed to look enough like the Slater's ( the couple that had taken her ) that The Government was none the wiser, and never questioned her existence. Her "adoptive" parents raised her as if she were their own, and taught her everything they knew, which happened to be quite a lot. Brandy and Ted were two of the smartest Perfections within the city.
FACT TWO :: Talia was three when she met her biological parents face-to-face for the first time. What were Sarah and Lawrence even doing inside the wall, you ask? Simple - they were having another baby. Talia got to see her mom and dad for all of five minutes before they were whisked back outside the wall, but she got a lifetime of "I love you's" and "We miss you's" in those five minutes, and it was then that her mind was made up. She was going to go live with her parents no matter what. Being only three, Talia had no idea what living with Sarah and Lawrence entailed - all she knew was that they were the people who had brought her into this world, and she wanted to be with them. Period. Except she thought all that in simpler terms, cause she was only three and her thought processes wasn't quite that advanced yet. Daniel was given to a different couple ( since nothing was more suspicious than a non-pregnant couple suddenly having a second kid ), but Talia got to see him whenever she wanted, which was every day. She was in love, and sisterly instinct demanded that she keep an eye on Daniel as much as she could, something she does even to this day.
FACT THREE :: Talia first met Vincent Evércha at the age of seven. She had wandered outside while waiting for Brandy to get through the line at the supermarket ( because parents didn't have to worry about their kids being snatched, so they weren't taught not to do something like that ), and stumbled upon Vince as he ambled past. Out of curiosity, she asked him where his mom was. He looked at her like she was crazy, and the following seconds between her question and his answer were the longest of Talia's short little life. It didn't help that Vincent was already tall for his age, or that his blue eyes were incredibly distracting. Like any normal seven year old girl might do when meeting a boy they think is cute, Talia decided, right then and there, that she was going to marry this boy when she grew up. She continued to pepper the light-haired boy with questions until she struck upon one he actually decided to answer - what was his name? He hesitated for a moment, then took a deep breath and introduced himself as Vincent Emilio de Evércha, probably figuring that he would never see the persistent blond again, so he might as well give her his full name.
FACT FOUR :: The first time Talia drew the eye of The Government, she had just turned thirteen. Brandy and Ted had been secretly teaching her English with the supplies her parents had left behind for her ( legit English, not the crap that was taught in The Now ), as well as the extensive history of the Federick family. Her paternal grandfather had been a novelist/journalist before The Now existed, her aunt had been an underground writer until the Perfection Police and Reapers got to her, and her two uncles, her father, and her mother had been journalists for an underground newspaper until The Government caught wind of the whole thing and they were all forced to flee outside the wall. When her annual exams rolled around, guess who scored abnormally high on her mental examination? That's right, Talia. Her high score would have gone unquestioned if not for the fact that genetics said she shouldn't have scored as high as she did. A pair of Perfection Police sat her down and questioned her extensively. She played the part of an air-headed girl who just so happened to be an extremely good guesser impeccably. Or so she thought.
FACT FIVE :: Talia was nineteen when living outside the wall with her parents went from being a dream to being a reality. She'd taken her final set of annual exams, and had been led to believe that things had gone off without a hitch. Until she was pulled aside to have blood drawn. They told her it was so they could put her genetic profile into The Government's main database, since they operated off of a DNA match instead of a key card when it came to access to the building and other information. Talia, not knowing any better one way or the other, went along with it. She was halfway home before she realized exactly what The Government was going to discover when they looked at her DNA profile. She raced the rest of the way home and frantically packed a knapsack with essentials, then hopped on her bike and sped to Daniel's home, which was three blocks from hers. That was the first ( and currently, last ) time she encountered a Reaper. If not for the fact that half the street had heard her screaming Daniel's name and had come outside to investigate, she would have died that day. Talia and her brother made it outside the wall alive thanks to dumb luck.
FACT SIX :: Talia stayed outside the wall with her family learning how to survive ( aka, becoming one badass fighter/hunter ) until she was twenty-one. As it was, Sarah and Lawrence had barely kept their daughter outside the wall that long - the guilt over not knowing what had become of Brandy and Ted had been eating at her from the day she'd ended up reuniting with her parents, and even though it was extremely dangerous, they understood why she wanted to go back inside. Brandy and Ted had raised her. Had put themselves in danger in order to help out a pair of old friends. She owed them her life. Sarah and Lawrence let her go back inside on one condition - that they go with her. They had been sneaking in and out of The Now for far longer than Talia had, after all. Talia also suspected that they didn't want her going back in alone because if she got caught, they'd never know about it. The three of them made it in and found out what they wanted to know without any trouble. Getting out, however, didn't go as well. Just when they thought they were home free, the Perfection Police showed up. Talia made it - Sarah and Lawrence died so that she could.
FACT SEVEN :: These days, Talia splits her time between looking after Daniel, traveling from abandoned city to abandoned city foraging ( aka, hunting for books, CD's, and anything else music or literature related, including paper, pencils, and batteries ), and sneaking inside the wall to steal hair color, clothes, and hot chocolate ( among other things ). She's got a "nest" in a tiny alleyway downwind from a coffee shop ( because she loves the smells that float out of the place ) that you wouldn't be able to find even if you were looking for it - daddy taught his girl how to camouflage her shiz like a boss - unless you happened to spot Talia leaving. The blond has perfected the art of being a ghost. Her hair is a different color every six months or so. She disguises her features with makeup so well that her brother can't recognize her. She never wears the same thing ( be it a shirt, jeans, jacket, or shoes ) inside the wall twice. When she slips up, it's not by accident, it's completely on purpose. Talia enjoys reminding The Government that she's out there and getting away with it. She's daring them - or anyone else, for that matter - to catch her.
